What Changed When I Used the Reader's Words
Two queries. One phrase cluster. The gap between them is the actual problem.

On March 5 I ran two queries. Same intent. Different words.
One scored 26 out of 36. One scored zero.
The February baseline had MoonInMental at 8 out of 189. Perplexity found it on a direct brand name search. Every category query was zero. That was the before.
Between February and March I ran an infrastructure sprint. Same phrase cluster standardized across six surfaces in one weekend. After that, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini all returned MoonInMental as the top result for trauma-informed astrology and aromatherapy. Gemini named me by name under its own “Top Recommendation” header. Score: 26 out of 36.
That was the brand language query.
Then I ran the reader language query.
“Is there a Substack specifically for people with CPTSD who like astrology and essential oils.”
That is what someone types before they know MoonInMental exists.
ChatGPT said the niche didn’t have a dedicated newsletter. Described MoonInMental’s exact positioning as an unfilled gap. Perplexity said it couldn’t find a Substack clearly branded for this combination. Gemini named three other Substacks. Google AI Overview named three more.
Score: zero out of 36.
The entity is indexed. The brand language retrieves it. The consumer language doesn’t reach it yet.
That’s a specific gap. Not a general visibility problem. The infrastructure sprint worked for one vocabulary set and not the other.
I can’t isolate which surface caused the movement on the brand query. The Substack about page, the Payhip listing, and the LinkedIn rewrite all happened in the same sprint. I’m running each one separately in the next cycle to find out which one moved the needle.
The zero on the reader query told me something more specific: ChatGPT cited Reddit as a source and found nothing. There is no MoonInMental Reddit presence. When a query doesn’t match the entity vocabulary, ChatGPT falls back to community discussion. For the CPTSD astrology essential oils cluster, that’s Reddit. MIM isn’t there.
That’s the next surface.
The two-query structure is now the standard diagnostic. One query in the brand’s language. One in the reader’s language. The gap between the two scores is the exact shape of the problem.
